Crafted in Wakayama, Japan, The Redcast T-shirts are the result of an uncompromising dedication to quality and heritage craftsmanship. Over the years, we've noticed a persistent gap in the market—while high-quality Japanese loopwheeled tees were readily available, finding one with true Western sizing and fit remained a challenge. Determined to bridge this gap, we set out to create the perfect Japanese heavyweight Tsuri-ami (loopwheeled) T-shirt, combining traditional Wakayama craftsmanship with a fit tailored to Western expectations. Under "The Redcast Quality Goods," our new in-house brand dedicated to perfecting wardrobe essentials, this pack of T-shirts is designed to elevate everyday style.
Made using Japanese vintage tsuri-ami (loopwheel) machines in Wakayama dating back to the 1920s, these 8.2oz (280gsm) heavyweight T-shirts offer exceptional durability, breathability, and a luxurious hand feel that improves with wear. This heavyweight fabric represents the sweet spot between durability and comfort, heavy enough to drape well while remaining comfortable for year-round wear.
Unlike conventional high-speed knitting, tsuri-ami machines operate on a gravity-fed system, slowly knitting fabric with minimal tension—just one meter per hour. They produce only 16 meters of fabric per day compared to the 200 meters possible with modern equipment. This process allows the cotton fibers to relax naturally, creating a fabric with unparalleled softness, a distinctive texture, and enhanced longevity. Additionally, the irregular knit pattern evolves with wear and washing, gradually revealing the iconic circular knitting. Made from premium long-staple cotton, these T-shirts are carefully constructed to ensure exceptional strength, smoothness, and durability that will stand the test of time.
Every aspect of these T-shirts has been meticulously designed for durability, comfort, and timeless style. The triple-stitched collar, reinforced with a specialized three-needle technique, ensures long-lasting structure, while custom-designed woven tags add a refined touch that reflects our commitment to craftsmanship. To achieve the perfect fit while respecting the limitations of vintage tsuri-ami machines, For sizes S to M, we're able to utilize the full circumference of the 1920s loopwheel machines, creating truly seamless garments, while sizes L to XXL require side seams due to the smaller diameter of the machines. Since the fabric must be cut to accommodate larger sizes, we use Union Special flat side seam construction to ensure both comfort and durability—an approach inspired by vintage sweatshirts that results in a smooth, polished finish.

Each two-pack of T-shirts comes in a sturdy 360g textured cardboard box, featuring our signature blend of indigo and Redcast colors.

Fit Notes: Our T-shirts have a true-to-size fit, based on American sizing. If you usually wear a size M in American brands, the size M of our T-shirts should fit you perfectly. They have been pre-washed in Japan, so you don’t have to worry about shrinkage.
